Among my interests in the SCA are calligraphy and illumination. Below are several examples of award scrolls I have made and images of the originals manuscripts on which they are based.
Order of the Pearl for Duchess Niobe Lais of Bellatrix based on an introductory minature to the Roman de la Violette (Paris, early 15th century). I have also included a detail of the illumination, and a picture from an event that also inspired the illumination.
Order of the Kittyhawk for Lord Alaric Dohmnullach based on a manuscript of Isadores' Synoyma, circa 800 AD.
Order of the Tempest for Monsieur Gaston du Valmont based on an illustration in 'the Compendium' (MS Kennicott 1, folio 493 recto) Spain 1476
Order of the Boreas for Lady Jocetta Thrushleigh - my source for this one did not give a date and place, though it is definately period. It was only described as the Annunciation of the Shepard, F42V . This was very early scroll for me.
Award of Arms for Lady Anna Sabine is based on a scene from a Bible pulished in Paris circa 1285. This the 3rd award scroll I ever made. It is done in guache on bristol board.
