Angevin Treasures Medieval Costuming

About Us

Our dream is to bring a little magic, fantasy, and history into people's lives in fun and beautiful ways. Our hope is that a visit to our store will transport you back in time for a little while, away from the chaotic world of cars and cubicles, to a world where every girl is a beautiful princess and each boy a valiant knight. We like to think of our store as a walk down Diagon Alley, a visit to the Renaissance Faire, and a weekend at the Highland Games all rolled into one.

Scott and Kirsten Vaughan have been medieval-fantasy enthusiasts for as long as they can remember. Scott admits to playing entirely too much Dungeons & Dragons as a child, and Kirsten has long been a collector of dragons, and an avid reader of fantasy novels. The two met at North Carolina State University School of Design. Scott majored in architecture, and Kirsten in graphic design. While in college, they became active in the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval/renaissance re-enactment group.

The couple was married in 1993 in a medievally themed ceremony. Beginning in 1995 or so they started a medieval mercantile which eventually came to be called "Angevin Treasures". It focused primarily on costuming and accessories for 11-13th century Anglo-Norman re-enactors, as well as music, and other odds and ends. During 1997-1999 they also managed a booth at Magnolia Marketplace in Cary, NC called "...of Castles and Cottages". This consignment booth focused on home decor and garden items with a medieval/renaissance theme.

Their sons Aiden and Liam came along shortly thereafter and kept them busy for the next several years. In June of 2006, Scott grew frustrated with his full-time job in pharmaceutical research and the couple decided to finally open the store they'd always dreamed of.

Scott & Kirsten continue to attend living history events, and present special programs on medieval history and music for schools, libraries and civic groups. While they have a broad interest in medieval and renaissance history, their speciality continues to be the life and culture of the Angevin Empire (11-13th century England and France). They have both been recognized by the Society for Creative Anachronism with the Order of the Laurel, which is awarded to individuals who contribute greatly to the arts and culture of the organization. You can visit Kirsten's personal pages, which are focused on her costuming work.

Outside of Camelot Treasures, Scott and Kirsten play music for medievally themed weddings and parties. For more information or bookings visit Deer Hollow Music.
